Part of what makes backpackers groovy cats is that whatever favor someone does for them while on the road, they won’t pay it back, but pay it forward.
There are even pay-it-forward boxes out there. Who knows? One of them could have your name on it. Watch this video to learn how you can start your own.

What a cool idea! My man-friend and I are planning to “backpack” around Costa Rica at the end of the month. Now, I am a girl who has pretty much stayed in hotels with marble bathroom counters and mints awaiting my eventual plunge into high-thread-count sheets (I am not proud of this) so I can hardly conceive of backpacking. I hope that it will not involve actually sleeping outdoors. Hostels are the plan. We are just going to hop on a plane and see where it takes us.
This is my idea and I hope it turns out to be a good one. If any of you thinks this sounds really stupid, please tell me now. And if you have any tips about Costa Rica in particular, please share.
I may end up paying forward my entire recently-assembled backpacking inventory. But I hope not! Instead I hope this trip will be liberation from the dinner-hosting, pearl-wearing, Botox-partying life I’ve lived for the past 20 years. Eek.
